- "The last thing that you remember is standing before the wizard Lakmir as he gestured wildly and chanted in an archaic tongue. Now you find yourself staring at an entryway which lies at the edge of a forest. The Druid's words still ring in your ears: Within the walls of the Castle Shadowgate lies your quest. If the prophecies hold true, the dreaded Warlock Lord will use his dark magic to raise the Behemoth, the deadliest of the Titans, from the depths of the earth. - The tutorial of entering the castle
- You really can’t play this kind of game with a guide. It feels weird doing everything in order, less natural.
- Death might be constant, but it’s not a major penalty
- And death is also very creative
- Puzzle Solving
- The manual wants you to order the hint book. Designed this way on purpose? ALSO that’s all the manual offers you.
- The hint book does have a cool system though. It has three levels of hints. A, B, C. A gives you a vague hint, B is more informational, C is explicit.
- ????? The hint feature is NES exclusive, but not always helpful
- The manual wants you to order the hint book. Designed this way on purpose? ALSO that’s all the manual offers you.
- Only a finite number of torches are to be found throughout the game, which effectively acts as a time limit to proceedings.
- Weapons

- Unlike the first Shadowgate, this is a platform game - not an action game, but a classical point-and-click adventure viewed from a platform perspective. You can move your hero around, examine, manipulate, and take objects.
