072 - TIGER HELI

OUR THOUGHTS
MIKE
First off, no tigers. Not a single tiger in this game can you believe that?! But there are definitely helicopters and you play as one! We are on a bit of a SHMUP binge in the NES library and that is making me hyper sensitive to the bad ones. Tiger Heli is on the BAD list. It’s not terrible, but we are coming off of Stinger so I could not stand this game. In Tiger Heli, you control a helicopter that has pretty limited control and weapons, but enough firepower to deal heavy damage to some suburban houses. Why are we bombing these houses? I don’t care what a manual says, that just seems wrong. Direction is all over the place in this game. Gameplay on the other hand is completely limited. SHMUPs should, in theory, be about customizing your vessel to be the ultimate killing machine and BE about being the ultimate killing machine. Tiger Heli is so sparse on delivering a worthwhile product that I couldn’t invest a significant portion of time to it.
THE VERDICT - NOT ESSENTIAL
