073 - WINTER GAMES
Show Notes
OUR THOUGHTS
MIKE
Put this in the bucket of games that barely function. If you like this game, I’m sorry but you now need to send me a 500 word explanation on why this game should even exist. Winter Games, unlike Track and Field, fails to figure out a video game execution of the events it’s trying to simulate. Keep in mind that there are only two buttons and a few directions to play with. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. And yet it feels like Acclaim is trying way too hard to make a BAD game. Figure Skating just does not work in this game. Nothing about it feels good. Nothing about it is rewarding. None of the buttons really do ANYTHING. Why couldn’t A be pressed to jump and then pick a direction to do a trick. That took me 5 seconds. What the heck Acclaim? What the heck Action Graphics? Who thought this was necessary? Bobsled requires 4 different screens to navigate through the course. In real life, they don’t need 4 screens so why do we? The Hotdog does not allow you to do anything, but pick a direction and hope it lands. And that’s the most functional game in the bunch. Now is a great time to mention that this version of Winter Games is missing several modes from the other versions. Nothing in Winter Games is worth playing and it barely works.
In this episode of NEStalgia, get ready for a game that's a lot like Pong but with better graphics! It's TENNIS on the NES. For more NEStalgia and the show notes, visit NEStalgiacast.com
