065 - SKY KID

SKY KID

Episode 065

OUR THOUGHTS

MIKE

This game means almost nothing to me. There are so many better games just from Namco and yet somehow many people have decided that Sky Kid is in the upper echelons of the Namco library. The truth is, this NES port is far from anything worth playing. I’m not afraid to complain about graphics in an NES game and this one is just terrible. Like flashbacks to Chubby Cherub. The scrolling from right to left is different, but since the standard had already been set at this point it just doesn’t work. It doesn’t make the game any different or unique, just harder to adapt to. Variety in this game is less than stellar. The inclusion of two player is welcome, but makes things a little too easy. We would all be better off to just forget this port and (if you’re really interested) just skip over to the original arcade version. The amount of references this game had in video game culture following this release is just crazy. I mean look at those Show Note links.

THE VERDICT - NOT ESSENTIAL
