What can be said about Athletic World? It’s a game that is definitely lost to time. I thought about this while owning a Wii. How many games on this console will only ever be playable with a wiimote? I think time has been kinder to the GREAT Wii games as they have been given HD remasters that don’t require a wiimote, but there are still a lot left behind that you will need a wiimote to enjoy. There are even more Wii games left behind that are just plain NOT GOOD. That’s the case with Athletic World. It requires the Power Pad which makes enjoying it very hard because of the availability and workability of the accessory these days. If you’re lucky enough to have a working Power Pad and a copy of Athletic World…well you’re still in pretty bad luck. The game is not great, plays archaically, and offers little more than a few minute son novelty. Clearly no one is asking for a remaster of Athletic World (myself included), but it is kind of sad when games in the medium especially those of gaming historians become harder and harder to play, let alone play properly.

THE VERDICT - NOT ESSENTIAL
