OUR THOUGHTS

This is the one that probably draws a fine line in the sand for me and the NES enthusiasts. Guys, here me out. Pro Wrestling on the Nintendo Entertainment System is not good. It’s not worth playing today. Okay, now that we got that out of the way I’m going to talk about what I like about this game. If there is one thing that Pro Wrestling gets right without question it’s the characters. The Amazon and Starman might as well have been actual wrestlers in the WWF, they are just the right amount of persona while still being plausible fighters. I love that the game goes for an attempt to simulate what was making WWF so big at the time. The presence of the cameraman, the referee actually having to approach the fighters to count, and the announcers commentating the fights are all great touches to this game. It’s no surprise this game released in March which is also the same month Wrestlemania 3 would air.
I just don’t think I like 2D wrestling games and I also don’t think that’s a problem. The controls are never tight in these games and the sense of space leads to so many frustrating moments. There’s something for everyone on the NES and something like this just doesn’t translate well for me.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a new #1 in the Wrestling category, knocking off M.U.S.C.L.E's 2 month reign in the category. I mean, granted, I didn't have all that much fun with it, but it's a significant improvement in the genre. The matches have a bunch of elements that add to the authenticity to the game, such as a referee that has to rush over to you before the countdown starts, or a cameraman who... exists. The characters are pretty hilarious as well. Only in this game can you play as someone named King Corn Karn. Beyond that though, I had almost as much trouble executing in this game as I had all the way back in Tag Team wrestling. I've gotta be the problem here, right?
